About

“We are the weirdos, mister.”

Welcome to Weird Girl Horror, a place for past, current, and future weirdos to congregate and geek out over our love of horror.

My name is Kasey, the owner of this blog and horror fan. I grew up with horror as a child. My parents were horror fans, and as soon as my brother and I were old enough, they introduced us to the horror films of the 80’s and 90’s they were obsessed with when they were young. Some of my favorite childhood memories were my father going all out for Halloween: decorating our home to the extent that it looked like a haunted house, putting special effects makeup on us for our costumes, and dressing up himself as we went trick-or treating. He went as Freddy Krueger often, and he could do Freddy’s iconic laugh so well. He and my mom also was introduced us to Vincent Price films and classic monster movies, and they would take us to a landmark cinema in the city I grew up in that those classic films played at so we could experience them in a theater. When I got to be a preteen, the movie that absolutely terrified me to my core was Gore Verbiniski’s The Ring. I was so scared that every night I would unplug my tiny tv and turn it around so that it would face the wall. I would, however, still have nightmares about it turning on by itself. My friends and I were still obsessed with it, despite being scared, and we went to see tons of horror movies thanks to the PG-13 horror movie wave of the 2000’s.

Unfortunately, due to health issues, I lost touch with horror as got to be too much to keep up with. I missed out on a lot of great movies. However, once I finally started treatment and got better my love of the genre came back, and I was especially intrigued by the films that started the current renaissance. The last few years have been a journey -catching up on what I missed, watching foreign films I finally had access to, and checking out hidden gem recommendations I wouldn’t have tried otherwise. The time I have spent reintroducing myself to horror has just confirmed for me that it is such an incredible genre. It can be so many things – terrifying and thrilling, fun and campy, challenging and thought-provoking.  And is there any other genre that has such passionate fans? Think of any movie, book, tv show, or character, no matter how unheard of it may seem and you will find the most enthusiastic fans encouraging you to engage with it. That’s what brought me back, and that’s what keeps me here.

I started this blog because I wanted a space where I could share my thoughts on horror. I don’t claim to be the smartest person, and I am still figuring this out as I go. I don’t know if anyone will read this. But if anyone does, I just want you to know that this is a place for everyone, for all the weirdos, who love horror in every capacity. -K
